The 2022 ASHA 50 rankings of the 50 largest U.S. Owners and 50 Largest U.S. Operators were released today and appear in the August/September issue of Seniors Housing Business. Conducted annually since 1994, the ASHA 50 rankings are considered the authoritative ranking of market rate senior living in the country.

Welltower Inc. remains the largest owner of seniors housing in the U.S. as of June 1, 2022, with 90,178 units (903 communities), followed by Ventas with 66,208 units (720 communities), Brookdale Senior Living with 30,335 units (339 communities), Diversified Healthcare Trust with 25,195 units (239 communities) and Harrison Street rounding out the largest five owners with 23,470 units (175 communities). The largest 50 owners collectively own 563,850 units across the country.

Brookdale Senior Living remains the largest U.S. operator with 55,581 units (668 communities), followed by Atria Senior Living with 43,902 units managed (358 communities), LCS with 32,988 units managed (358 communities), Sunrise Senior Living with 27,376 units managed (269 communities) and Erickson Senior Living rounding out the largest five with 24,642 units across 20 communities. The largest 50 operators collectively operate 523,888 units in the country.
